There are currently several positions open within the Department which include part-time firefighter, full-time firefighter positions as seen below.
Starting salary: $50,020.00 plus the benefit package
After 6 months and successful completion of DFD Firefighter 2 job tasks: $51,435.57 with the potential of $54,007.34 with AAS in Fire Protection degree
Full time Firefighter Job Posting
Position Title: Full time Firefighter
The Full time Firefighter must be able to perform the duties of a Firefighter. This includes operating in IDLH atmospheres and providing basic level emergency medical care and rescue services as needed.
Firefighter Minimum Qualifications:
- NC Firefighter certification
- NC-EMT Basic; or the ability to obtain within 12 months of hire
- 18 years of age and reside within a 25-mile radius of Denver Fire Headquarters
- NC Class B Classified license within 3 months of hire
- IS 100.c, 200.c, 700.b, 703.a, 706 and 800.c prior to employment start date
- Candidates must demonstrate through the Denver Fire Department hiring process a level of competency to perform as a Firefighter
Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Station and Apparatus upkeep and basic maintenance
- Common and accepted functions of Fire, Rescue, and EMT
- Incident mitigation, Incident reporting, record keeping, public relations, and fire prevention
- Perform additional tasks assigned through their chain of command
- Application period: The application period will open on June 16th, 2024, and close on June 30th, 2024, at 5 pm
- This is a full-time, 24-hour shift based position

Position Title: Part-Time Firefighter
The Part Time Firefighter must be able to perform the duties of a Firefighter. This includes operating in IDLH atmospheres and providing basic level emergency medical care and rescue services as needed. $18-18.75hr depending on qualifications
Firefighter Minimum Qualifications:
- NC Firefighter certification
- NC-EMT Basic; or the ability to obtain within 12 months of hire
- 18 years of age and reside within a 25-mile radius of Denver Fire Headquarters
- NC Class B Classified license within 3 months of hire
- IS 100.c, 200.c, 700.b, 703.a, 706 and 800.c prior to employment start date
- Candidates must demonstrate through the Denver Fire Department hiring process a level of competency to perform as a Career Firefighter
